OLESYA ZDOROVETSKA UKRAINIAN MUSICIAN AND ARTIST
Here at The Cambridge Critique we thought it would be good to honour one of Ukraine’s most celebrated performers. Cambridge poet Richard Berengarten first heard her play in 2020 and it inspired a poem long before the terrible events of recent days.
She and her partner Nick Roth have been involved together in some of the most exciting projects in experimental music over a number of years, with flavours of improvisatory, jazz, and folk musics. As a solo performer and collaborator she crosses the genres of improvised, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, contemporary classical, traditional and experimental music, and regularly composes for film and theatre Olesya is little know in Britain but moved to Dublin in 2011 and has become a distinctive figure on the Irish music scene. Her key projects include her curation of the Phonica series and she is now recognised as an innovator and creative rule breaker in the world of modernist music. .
