LIAM NOBLE AT STAPLEFORD GRANARY
The new trend for lunchtime concerts at Stapleford on Sunday cracks back into action next week with Liam Noble: his adventurous jazz trio will open the series with inventive flair. Ever since ‘Close Your Eyes’ his first album, Liam has carved out a musical path with a series of master musicians . A pianist of skill , he can use his background of tradition with a genius for experimentation. Noble has functioned as an acoustic piano player, a master of electronic music and with a slew of creative work behind him, he has claimed a central place in British jazz of today His recent album ‘The Long Game’ came out to a welter of praise. And you can hear why - it is both tight in structure but open to the latest in experimentation.
Of all his ardent fans, surely Liam Noble’s most impressive is , unbelievably, the eternal Dave Brubeck. Noble rightly honours this complex artist in his 2009 album ‘Brubeck’ Unsurprisngly it went on to garner 4 and 5 star reviews , strikingly from famously hard-to - please Guardian critic, a five from him. The greatest accolade came impressively from the great composer himself ; Brubeck got to hear - and appreciate the album and described the Noble’s work as ‘’an inspiration and a challenge for me to carry on in the avenues that you have opened’.
Enough said?
