THE DARLING BUDS OF MAY - VIVA THEATRE SOHAM
Is there anywhere in the Arts world quite so enterprising creative and successful as Viva? It is the Fenland based theatre group that has stormed through to acclaim over the past twenty years .Founder Daniel Schuman, a thespian to his elegant fingertips - he has been in professional theatre since he was a youngster - began it. and he has pulled all his theatrical strings to garner support
“It has been a huge project, I have to admit” he confesses “ But now we are regularly at the Edinburgh Festival I feel we have made our mark”. Viva comes entirely from the Soham community but these days receives international recognition
This is all despite the hammer blow dealt by the Covid crisis which closed the theatre and in fact drained the dynamism from the village - and from the potential players. The aftermath was difficult
“People once keen on joining in seemed to have lost their vitality” Daniel Schuman admits. But two years on he has worked his magnetic magic once more and the company is up and running in its converted Mill – and essentially the fund raising shop at 14 Churchgate in Soham is back in action.
This week’s production of The Darling Buds of May is a must for theatregoers in the region. Warm genial and genuinely funny, it is a show tailor made for the company and a treat for anyone who likes a good laugh in the theatre
The opening night is tomorrow – April 26th and it runs until Saturday –a chance to see the young people and some older ones, put on one of their admired class acts.
Doors open at 7.30 pm
