DARKER SHORES - AT THE ARTS THEATRE
The approach of winter seems a suitable time to have one’s spine chilled. Chilly spines and goosebumped skin will surely be the order of the day when ‘Darker Shores’ washes up in Cambridge. Written by Michael Punter, the tale is a dark thriller set in a desolate stretch of the East Sussex coastline – perhaps a beastly Bexhill or a horrid Hastings? You might think this is scary enough, but the story is also based in Victorian England where as we all know it is perpetual night and creepy things are always lurking behind a shadowy top hat. Add in the Christmas cold and a spooky house managed by a strange housekeeper. Ghostly goings on and unexplained happenings promise to keep us all on the very edge of our Arts Theatre seats. Are there dark secrets to be revealed? You betcha life.
The play stars husband and wife team Maxwell Caulfield and the legendary Juliet Mills alongside Michael Praed. It is a very strong cast and that signals to me that this thriller is going to send my vertebrae to the chiller cabinet.
